Carbon steel wire refers to prestressed steel wire with a carbon content not exceeding about 0.9%. The carbon steel wire used for prestressed reinforcement in China is mostly high-strength steel wire and cold drawn low-carbon steel wire. Increasing the carbon content (>0.9%), like cold work and heat treatment, can improve the strength and hardness of steel wires, but it will reduce their plasticity, toughness, and weldability.
